Sunday Music Jam with George Kilby Jr, Road Dogs Sundays March 10 and October 6 2pm-5pm
George Kilby Jr. was born in Alabama; and the sounds of the South have never left him. Roots-Rock or Americana fit well enough, but the band has a sound all its own. Along with great songwriting, Kilby’s unique approach to the blues features unconventional instrumentation such as accordion and baritone sax. Added to that are influences from country, bluegrass and a bit of the Allman Brothers. George’s 20 years of playing with blues legend Pinetop Perkins always show in his repertoire.
“Kilby’s recent collaborations with members of the Jamgrass phenomenon Railroad Earth and harmonica wizard Phil Wiggins add to the depth of his sound."
With the Road Dogs, he appears regularly at European festivals from Scandinavia to Ireland as well as extensive work on the East coast, with lots of gigs in the Big Apple and Catskill Mountains. He has been a fixture on Manhattan’s downtown roots music scene for 20 years. The band can be seen frequently at BB King’s in Times Square on Sunday nights.
